Three Notch’d Valley Collab House
This weekend we visited Three Notch’d Valley Collab House in Harrisonburg. We’ve been before so we knew what our favorites were, but they rotate their small batch list frequently so there are always new options to sample too. They offer two different pick your own flight options - 4 samples for $6 and 6 for $8. We opted for 4 each.
They have you pick bottle caps for each beer you want. It’s kind of fun.
Candice had the 40 Mile IPA, the Minute Man New England IPA, the Hydraulion Irish Red and the small batch Ginger Lemongrass Ale.
Lesley had the No Veto English Brown Ale and the Big Bee Imperial Belgian Blonde as well as the Ginger Lemongrass, and Hydraulion.
The Big Bee - this was interesting. It was made with chamomile from the brewer’s garden and honey from a local apiary. It was slightly sweet to start and finished on the dry hoppy side. Lesley would have liked the reverse better as a fan of the smooth finish.
No Veto - Lesley’s favorite to get. A great brown ale. Malty and fairly smooth with a hint of coffee-like bitterness.
Hydraulion - Lesley is a fan. It a very nice Irish red. If you like Killian’s, you will like this. It’s just smooth and balanced and should please just about anyone... Candice is not anyone though. She finds it too balanced - too malty for her taste, but she did like it fine.
40 Mile - Candice finds this to be a classic IPA. Just the right amount of hoppiness without being over the top.
Minute Man - Candice finds this one to be a bit lighter and more citrusy than the 40 Mile. Definitely more of a summer IPA in her opinion.
Ginger Lemongrass - we both loved this one. It was the surprise winner of the day, pleasing both of us. It was crisp and light and super refreshing. We hope this makes a reappearance in the summer. It would be the perfect poolside beer.
Three Notch’d has locations in Charlottesville, Harrisonburg and Richmond.
The Valley Collab is located downtown with a few restaurants very close by and many more a short walk away. For a pizza and beer fix, visit Benny Sorrentino’s around the corner from the Collab.
